Timekeeping Before The Calendar of Ahm-Imrad

It is unknown what method of timekeeping the dragons or the Eiluthîn used in the days before the elves, or the dwarves before their enslavement, but the elves of the Eifwele did not note time by the movement of the firmament, but with names of years in which important events occurred, flowers blooming or leaves changing color when such events took place. A “year” in the Feywild could last one Eilarûnian year, or one thousand. This changed with the Passage of Olbrin.

The cyclic, predictable seasons of Eilarûn allowed the elves to track time in a more consistent way. The King’s Calendar was created by the first elves, marking each year after Olbrin formed a portal between The Grove of the White Stag in the Eifwele, and the Faeriewell in Eilarûn, where the planes are closest. This was 1 K (AI -9976), or the First Year of the Faerie King.

The Calendar of Ahm-Imrad

In the present age, while the dwarves keep their own secret calendar, and the tribes of men use various methods to track the passage of years, the most commonly used calendar is the calendar of Ahm-Imrad.

The year AI 1 marks the rediscovery of the epic poem Sæþomun, Malu Alagii, and the start of the last Axe War, in which Elebren himself leads the armies of elves against Elennash and the Rhevaantar. The latter finally pushed from their strongholds and hunted to the ends of the known lands, this ended the The Wars of Abscission period and marked the start of The Quiet Spring.

The conversion between the King’s Calendar (or Genediaur) and the Calendar of Ahm-Imrad is as follows:

ahm-imrad = genediaur – 9977
ahm-imrad + 9977 = genediaur

The AI year consists of 360 days, divided into nine months, each with thirty days, except the winter month Ahrn Ahnvae, which lasts the extent of winter (at the latitude of the Irothi capitol), 120 days. Each week consists of ten days. Below are listed the months of the calendar, and the major holidays observed throughout much of Eilarûn.
